Use it as a short spelling activity
The word bank contains SNOW, FROST, ICE, SCARF, MITTEN, SLED, BOOTS, COCOA, SKATE, FLAKE, WINTER and CHILL. Read the list together before starting. A learner can choose one word, say its letters, then search for its first letter in the grid. This makes the sheet useful after practising seasonal vocabulary, without adding a long set of instructions.
Know where to look
Words run across, down or diagonally from upper left to lower right. None runs backwards. Circle each complete word and cross it off the word bank. A word may share letters with another answer. The second PDF page marks the answer locations, so a parent or teacher can keep that page separate and check the work after the search is finished.
Prepare a table or classroom station
Print page one for each participant and a single answer sheet for the person helping. Leave the puzzle flat on the table so the small letters remain easy to follow. A pencil is useful when a child wants to erase a partial circle. After finding the words, choose two from the list and write a short winter sentence on another sheet.
